Short Stories Big City
solo performance
Tags: physical theatre, experimental, non-text based, site-specific, performance
Inspired by everyday life, street images and human interaction in a contemporary big city, the
piece examines today's reality in a socio-political context. Starting from a basic script,
without a pre - written text and through physical and vocal improvisations, a stream of
episodes was developed based, primarily, on movement. Speech is used, when it is necessary,
usually in the form of a monologue addressed directly to the audience.
There are no traditional dialogue scenes, nor plot, nor "characters".
A very important aspect of the approach is the minimum use of technical means: by
eliminating what is not absolutely necessary, the focus moves on to the essential, which is the
actor, the spectator and the communication between them. For this reason, apart from the
absolutely necessary props, there is no other technical equipment nor specific set.
The traditional theatre stage has been removed. The audience shares the same space with the
performer in order to explore the actor-spectator relationship and the communication
between them.
This way, the spectator becomes an actual part of the performance. He/she is not a spectator
any more but a witness of a strong live experience.
